Bi-Weekly Salary (full-time): Starting, $1,302.37 - Maximum, $1,837.89
Approx. Annual Rate (full-time): Starting, $33,991.86 - Maximum, $47,968.93

Information about the current opening:
This position is a job share, working 20 hours per week. The salary listed above is based on full-time (40 hours/week) work and will be pro-rated based on actual hours worked. Vacation, holiday and sick leave benefits will be pro-rated based on the percent of hours worked. Health insurance contributions will be 50 percent of the amount for full-time coverage.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience working in formal or informal educational settings.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license. The driver's license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two (2) year period prior to date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.
  • Depending on the job vacancy, specific areas of expertise and experience may be desirable:

  • a. Plant and animal handling;
    b. Early childhood development, school, or organizational group setting teaching;
    c. Interpretive naturalist certification; and/or
    d. Art and illustration program teaching.

    Successful candidates will have experience with animal handling and transport. Informal environmental teaching experience is preferred. This position is located at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, which is open 7 days/week, 365 days/year. Work schedules vary and employees may be required to work weekends and holidays.

    Performs responsible work to plan, develop and teach educational and enrichment programs in formal and informal learning environments.

    The Qualifications Rating Examination involves an evaluation of your training and experience as it relates to the duties of this position. This includes an assessment of your answers to the attached Qualifications Rating Examination. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and examination. You must submit your completed application, examination, and proof of education by the application deadline; late materials will not be accepted.

    Note that the non-promotion eligible list will be pass/fail and the promotion eligible list will be ranked.

    This position requires a background check, medical examination, and a driver's license check as a condition of employment.

    7. Demonstrates effective teamwork by being self-motivated, accepting of assignments and by completing assignments within agreed-upon deadlines. Demonstrates an ability to lead and supervise program participants and volunteer assistants.
    8. Demonstrates an understanding of methods, techniques and rules to effectively handle and care for plants and animals under one's care during educational programming, if applicable.
    9. Demonstrates enthusiasm and initiative in supporting the vision and mission of the assigned unit and organization in a professional manner. Demonstrates the ability to be courteous, knowledgeable and well-groomed.
    10. Demonstrates good customer service skills at all times, whether on the phone, via email or in person, either off site or on grounds. Demonstrates a commitment and ability to continuously improve customer service.
    11. Demonstrates ability to assist with other duties as assigned.
