Awards totaling $10,000 for MN elementary schools implementing waste reduction efforts in school lunchrooms - Deadline April 1st
Jeffers Foundation

Announcing the Waste Reduction Awareness Program (WRAP)!

Jeffers Foundation is looking for elementary schools in Minnesota who have developed and are implementing effective Waste Reduction Programs in their school lunchrooms that can be shared with other schools throughout the state.

A recent study completed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency revealed the following: "While recycling and composting efforts often receive the most attention, efforts to "reduce" the amount of waste generated have the greatest potential to reduce costs and benefit the environment." While it is important to try to reduce all waste in schools, we are narrowing the focus for this awards program to include "Elementary School Lunchroom Programs" only. We realize that all schools have the awesome task of providing each student with a well-balanced meal while still meeting federal guidelines. We are attempting to find programs that are the most effective and efficient in reducing the amount of Food and Non-Food Waste generated each day.

Jeffers Foundation will have a committee of qualified reviewers read each Award Application and make recommendations for selection of the most effective programs. Three schools will be selected to receive the Jeffers W.R.A.P Award. Awards of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 will be awarded to the top three programs to be used to continue promoting Food Waste Reduction Programs.

All Minnesota Elementary Schools, public and non-public are eligible to apply.

The deadline for applications to be submitted ELECTRONICALLY is April 1, 2012
