Summer Education Internship
Aldo Leopold Nature Center

Monona, WI

Time Commitment:
  • 325 Hour Commitment (early June-late August)
  • Interns must be able to work 28-30 hours/week during program times (2 positions available, "Early" position from 8:00am-1:30pm and "Late" position from 11:15am-4:45pm. Please specify position preference in cover letter.)
  • Compensation: $250/month stipend plus certification in CPR/First Aid (note: room and board not provided)


  • Responsibilities:
  • Assist education staff in coordinating and preparing for summer camp programs (ages 2-16)
  • Ensure safety of summer campers while participating in programs at ALNC
  • Teach and develop hands-on summer camp programs
  • Supervise and lead lunchtime story hour and extended day activities to a variety of youth audiences (age 2-10)
  • Write newsletter article (phenology or natural history corner) as needed
  • Create and implement a summer long project (project details to be determined with supervisor)
  • Supervise youth volunteers


  • Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Commitment, reliability
  • A cheerful, positive and open attitude
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin natural history preferred
  • Flexibility
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Must be able to attend summer staff training week, including first aid and CPR/First Aid (June 4-8, 2012)
