Grants Specialist (Temporary, Part-time)
Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO)

Reports to: Jenny Winkelman, Education and Outreach Program Manager
Classification: Grants Specialist, Temporary, Part-Time
Hours: Not to exceed 15 hours per week. Some nights and weekends are required.
Pay: $16.50-$20.00 per hour

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing support to partners and implementing the Stewardship Fund Program on a temporary basis through October. Administers contracts with partners, keeps records, and coordinates the grant application and review process. Key audiences for the Stewardship Fund Program include: neighborhood organizations, business and professional associations, nonprofit organizations, schools, member communities, and underserved populations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Administer grant contracts, including receiving and approving final reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Advertise the Fall Mini Grant and Action Grant deadline to constituents and member communities.
  • Hold information sessions and respond to requests for information and resources, including giving feedback on draft grant applications.
  • Collect grant applications and coordinate the review process.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Represent the MWMO at partner events and neighborhood, community, and other meetings, as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the staff team by supporting and cooperating with other staff.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required; Keeps office space in a clean and presentable condition.


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Education:
    Four year degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Public Administration or a related field, and coursework with an ecological or environmental focus. An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and professional licenses may be considered.

    Experience:
    Minimum of one year experience working in a field related to project management, grant writing or reviewing, education, public outreach, community organizing, watershed-based planning, or urban environmental planning. Knowledge of and/or experience with the MWMO and the Stewardship Fund Program desired, but not required.

    Please note: MWMO policy does not allow employees to be a recipient of active or future Stewardship Fund grants during the time of their employment.

    Skills:
  • Able to display excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues, stormwater management practices and local units of government involved with stormwater management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (version 7 or higher); data and web management experience is desired.
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently with direction from the Supervisor.
  • Must be sensitive and respectful towards people of from all different ages and backgrounds.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
