- Part Time Summer Interpretive Naturalist

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Parks & Recreation - Natural Resource Division REPORTS TO: Interpretive Program Supervisor POSITION OBJECTIVE: To conduct nature center programs, supervise volunteers, help to care for exhibit animals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Presentation as well as development and marketing of interpretive programs for public, and community groups. 2. Supervises and supports volunteers as assigned. 3. Receipting and handling of monies from nature center store and program registration. 4. Assists in maintaining exhibits and exhibit program animals and the animal room.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists in maintaining overall nature center appearance and orderliness. 2. Responds to inquiries by telephone and in person concerning a broad spectrum of natural resource information. 3. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in interpretive programming with youth. 2. Ability to be imaginative and innovative in programming with youth. 3. Ability to establish a good rapport and harmonious relationship. 4. Must be eighteen (18) years of age. 5. Valid driver's license. 6. Some relevant secondary education.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor's of science degree in Natural Science, Environmental Education, or related field. 2. Experience in interpretive programming with youth. 3. Demonstrated proficiency in the creative use of a variety of communication mediums. 4. Ability to be imaginative and innovative in programming with youth. 5. Ability to establish a good rapport and harmonious relationship with staff.
WORK SCHEDULE: Summer position beginning week of June 4, 2012 and continue through the week of August 25, 2012. 24 hours per week, negotiable with nature center staff, must include Saturday 9 am - 5 pm.
COMPENSATION: Startling Hourly Rate from $12.08 /hour.
