Position Title: Water Quality Educator - Events

Position Description:
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is seeking an individual to work as a water quality educator. This educator will work in multiple locations throughout the city of Minneapolis at events and celebrations. The Water Quality Educator will:

  • Provide interactive water quality education for all ages at events and concerts in the Minneapolis Parks.
  • Update, re-design, maintain and purchase water education display materials.
  • Communicate with events hosts.
  • Track participation and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Lead Aquatic Invasive Species education at boat launches.
  • Other duties as assigned, including potential to support both the Neighborhood Naturalist and Canoe programs.


  • Hours: Monday through Friday, primarily in evenings between 5 and 8 pm. Requires availability for 4 weekend shifts per month. 15 to 30 hours per week.

    Compensation: $10.97 per hour, mileage reimbursement.

    Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Outgoing personality able to draw participants in to learn about the message.
  • Strong public speaking and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences in public setting.
  • Knowledge of watersheds, non-point source pollution, and water quality.
  • Training in environmental education and/or water ecology.
  • Working knowledge of tabling education techniques and messaging.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule (average of two weekend shifts per month).
  • Must have a drivers license, and a reliable car (mileage reimbursement provided).


  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of aquatic invasive species.
  • Demonstrated success teaching in event settings.
  • Knowledge of interpretive display design.
  • Ability to communicate in multiple languages.
