Job Description:
The Minnesota Zoo has a position opening for a full-time Bird Supervisor. This incumbent will oversee a diverse collection of birds and butterflies. This includes providing direct supervision of the avian animal care staff. The position requires leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills.
Days and hours of work will vary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Science, Bachelors of Science major, or Associate of Science in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife Management, or closely related discipline; AND
Two years of supervisory or lead work experience that includes effectively giving verbal and written work instructions, directing and mentoring subordinate staff, working with clients and visitors, and performing duties with minimum supervision; AND
Three years of experience in a zoo or aquarium (or other formal educations setting)providing direct care for a diverse collection of live birds.
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications must also provide detailed additional information in the following seven areas in order to be considered:
1) Experience in avian exhibition, propagation, and record keeping;
2) Experience in butterfly exhibition and propagation;
3) Experience in diet preparation and monitoring;
4) Experience with exhibit and animal holding sanitation, modification, and maintenance;
5) Experience in long and short term program planning
6) Experience in budget preparation and management;
7) Experience in supervising or lead work.
