Status: At Will, Temporary, Full-Time (40 hours including a few Saturdays) Duration: Sept. 5 - Dec. 31* * days off around Thanksgiving and Christmas given Benefits: $400/month, extensive training and professional development, employee store discount
Position Description: Interns will join a friendly, dynamic staff that is committed to carrying out Hartley Nature Center's mission of providing opportunities to people for understanding, appreciating, and being stewards of the natural world. After participating in professional development training, interns will assist and eventually lead school program offerings and teach winter day camps on/off-site in December. In addition to youth education programs, interns will also teach groups and individuals from the public one Saturday a month, interact with park visitors, teach scheduled public programs, assist with operational elements of Hartley (i.e. phone duties, mailings, tabling, etc.) and lead nature programs set up by reservation (birthday parties, scouts groups) as needed. Every intern will also have an additional project focus to be completed by the end of their contract.
Qualifications: o Minimum of two years college study o Genuine interest in children, youth, and working with the public o Experience or an interest in teaching natural history and environmental education o Effective written and oral communication skills o Ability to relate with people of all ages and abilities in a positive manner o Willingness to work independently as well as cooperatively and with flexibility as part of a staff o Experience working with preschoolers, children, and youth o Must pass a background check o First Aid and CPR certification required.
