Environmental Educator (up to 3 positions)
Hartley Nature Center

Duluth, MN

Status: At Will, Temporary, Full-Time (40 hours including a few Saturdays)
Start date: September 5, 2012
End date: May 31 OR August 16, 2013
Benefits: $400/month September-December; $500/month January-May (or August); tuition paid for Minnesota Master Naturalist training; extensive training and professional development

The Environmental Educator will join a friendly, dynamic staff that is committed to carrying out Hartley Nature Center's mission of providing opportunities to people for understanding, appreciating, and being stewards of the natural world. The Educator will work our nine-month school year with an option to continue through our summer camp season.

Duties:
  • Teach environmental education to diverse audiences, including school field trips, day camp & birthday party programs and adults.
  • Seek out and complete trainings to deepen understanding of nature, environmental education, nature center administration, including Minnesota Master Naturalist training
  • Assist with staff trainings and enrichment
  • Contribute to planning and implementing of special events, quarterly-published organizational newsletter


  • Qualifications:
  • Degree in environmental studies, education, sciences or related field
  • Genuine interest in children, youth, and working with the public
  • Experience teaching environmental education or outdoor recreation
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to relate with people of all ages and abilities in a positive manner
  • Willingness to work independently as well as cooperatively and with flexibility as part of a staff
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends
  • First Aid and CPR certification required
