Base Camp is one of the Twin Cities' newest experiential education programs and the first urban adventure base of its kind. Designed by Northern Star Council as a place to learn outside of the classroom the mission of Base Camp is "to connect young people with interactive experiences that build healthy, contributing citizens of character and leaders for life." Base Camp is a one of a kind, state of the art facility highlighted by a simulated natural rock climbing wall with 16 routes modeled after Taylors Falls, two climbing towers complete with simulated ice climbing routes, an indoor and outdoor high ropes courses, archery range, a fleet of fifty bicycles and one of only eight space shuttle simulators in the world! The real value of Base Camp comes from the phenomenal staff that can take these activities and turn them into educational experiences; building confidence and self-esteem, fostering teamwork and leadership, developing planning and problem solving skills. As Base Camp enters its third year of operation it looks to add some talented and knowledgeable team members to its ranks.
The Guide position at Base Camp is a part-time, on-call, "jack of all trades".
Our audiences are very diverse and no two groups are the same. Guides will be required to know how to operate a variety of activities (initiative games, climbing wall, archery range, etc.). With training and the help of Base Camp leadership guides will provide each group with a valuable and unique Base Camp experience. Base Camp is open days, evenings, and weekends- open availability is appreciated, but not required.
Ideal candidates will have extensive experiences working with youth; in the classroom instruction, outdoor recreation, worked at a youth summer camp, Boy or
Girl Scout camp, or other experience working with youth.
