National Get Outdoors Day (Special Features at State and National Parks!) Date: Saturday, June 9, 2012 National Get Outdoors Day is a new annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun. Participating partners will offer opportunities for American families to experience traditional and non-traditional types of outdoor activities. Participants from federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and the recreation industry are again teaming up to host the 5th annual National Get Outdoors Day (GO Day) to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun at sites across the nation. Prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors. Free Day at National Parks To encourage Americans to explore America's natural beauty, rich history and culture, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the National Park Service will waive admission fees on 17 days in 2012 - including June 9 (Get Outdoors Day). Geocaching Avian Adventure at MN State Parks Minnesota State Parks and Trails will launch their new Geocaching Avian Adventure program June 9, National Get Outdoors Day. Geocachers of all ages can search for Bird Caches hidden in all 76 state park and recreation areas and on one state trail. Collectable bird cards feature Minnesota's four unique natural communities or biomes. Cachers can collect all the cards for each biome to complete the Biome Bird and final Minnesota State Bird Challenges. The free program runs through June of 2014.
