Covers an area of about 5.9 million acres in northwestern Minnesota, from 47
to 48 degrees N latitude and from 94 degrees W longitude to Minnesota's
western border (area extends from Lake Winnibigoshish to Grand Forks and
includes part or all of 13 counties). Provides essential information for
broad planning, such as locating processing plants in areas suitable for
various crops; determining areas' potential for various types of farming,
forestry or recreation; determining areas that would benefit from drainage or irrigation; preparing wildlife density maps; locating pulp and paper
mills in areas of greatest potential supply; and locating feasible routes for
utility lines and highways. (More detailed soil surveys should be used for
specific planning of individual farms, cities, recreation areas, tax
equalization and road building. 24 tables describe features of soil
landscapes in the Bemidji Sheet's geomorphic areas. 14 b/w, 10 color photos.
Discusses development of landforms in the area as well as the
area's climate, agriculture, forestry, recreation and hydrology. A separate
color map shows the Bemidji Sheet's geomorphic areas and soil landscapes.

teachers.
