| Abstract |
This soil atlas covers an area of about 6,633,300 acres in southeastern Minnesota, from the Iowa-Minnesota border to 45 degrees N latitude and from the Minnesota-Wisconsin border to 94 degrees W longitude (includes all or part of 24 counties). Provides essential info for broad planning, such as determining areas suitable for various crops to enable processors to locate plants; determining potential for various types of farming, forestry or recreation; determining areas that would benefit from drainage or irrigation; preparing wildlife density maps; locating lumber mills within areas of greatest potential supply; and locating feasible routes for utility lines and highways. More detailed surveys should be used for specific planning of farms, cities, recreation areas, tax equalization and road building. 21 tables describe features of soil landscapes in the St. Paul Sheet's geomorphic areas. Discusses development of the area's landforms as well as its climate, woodland and recreation. 17 color photos. Separate color map shows the St. Paul Sheet's geomorphic areas and soil landscapes. For regional planners, development agencies, government personnel, engineers, businesses and industries, and junior high, high school and college science teachers.
