Join us for the Environmental Education Cohort Series: Teaching with Trees on October 4th  Join a dedicated group of elementary educators focused on integrating and embedding environmental education and outdoor instruction into everyday school instruction. Sponsored by Jeffers Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, sessions are offered the first Saturday each month from 9:30am - 11:30am at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Bloomington. How to Keep Young Hikers Happy: Nature Games and Other Strategies for More Fun on the Trail  This article by Heather Stephenson for the Children & Nature Network provides strategies to keep kids interested when out on the trail. Leading kids through the woods requires more than a map and compass. You also need enthusiasm and creativity to keep things fun for young hikers, whether they're preschoolers who tire easily or older children who claim they're bored.  More info

Waste reduction and recycling resources for schools  The Recycling Association of Minnesota offers several free resources to help schools recycle and reduce waste. 1. Customizable signs for recycling, trash, and organics, 2. Grants for recycling bins, 3. Web resources to help you find recycling options for unique school items such as old books and crayons. 4. Welcome to our newest SEEK Partner - Children's Country Day School  Children's Country Day School is a nature-based preschool located on 7 acres of pasture and woodlands in Mendota Heights. In April of 2009, Children's Country Day School became the 18th certified "Nature Explore Classroom" in the nation. In our Nature Explore Classroom, children instinctively interact with natural components and gain important learning skills as they play.  More info

Recycling Bin Grants and Innovation Grants available to Ramsey County schools  Ramsey County is offering two grant programs -- school recycling bin grants and innovation grants -- to help schools and non profits increase recycling and reduce waste. The School Recycling Bin Grants provide public K-12 schools with recycling bins. The Innovation Grants fund programs that increase waste reduction and residential recycling efforts, initiate residential composting programs, and address other waste issues. Applications accepted through the end of 2014.  More info
