Contact Information / Display Complete Database Record Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center | Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center Staff Resource type: Organization - EE Site - Program - Field Trip/Tour The Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center (BLELC) is a day use center located 17 miles north of Duluth, Minnesota. The BLELC is part of the Boulder Lake Management Area which is a cooperative project among Minnesota Power, St. Louis County Land Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry and Natural Resources Research Institute of the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The BLELC vision is to be a "window" for various audiences to view full-scale, integrated natural resource management through the use of environmental education programs, facilities and public recreation opportunities. BLELC offers a variety of middle school through professional level field programs in addition to classroom and schoolground programs, public programs and workshops. BLELC programs focus mainly on ecological research and natural resources. These programs develop decision-making, observation, and critical thinking skills while instilling respect for our natural history and heritage. If you have other ideas for programs, we will gladly work with to you to develop a specialized program.

Contact Information / Display Complete Database Record Glacial Geology Resource type: Program Presentation with a variety of visual aids to help students understand how ice shaped the landscape and major watersheds of Minnesota. Students make glacial features in a stream table with flowing water. (grades 4-12)

Usually over 30 species of macroinvertebrates are found by students dipping small nets into a wetland. The students also are coached on how to identify them under a microscope using a dichotomous key. (grades 2-5)
